Tips About Inspection and Maintenance of Boiler
The industrial boilers would be dangerous if not be inspected and maintained properly. Every year, countless accidents, breakdowns and unnecessary shutdowns occur among industrial boilers in the chemical, food processing, paper or textile industries all over the world, no matter large scale circulating fluidized bed boiler, power plant boiler or packaged steam boiler. Boiler breakdowns will cost thousands of dollars when repairing the equipment, as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage and business income losses. What’s more, boiler accidents can also cause loss of life and major structural damage to plants and equipment.
Importance of boiler maintenance and inspection
As a safety issue, boiler maintenance, servicing and inspection is also a significant economic matter. No industry wants emergency shutdowns or equipment downtime. It’s all known that most problems don't occur suddenly but develop slowly over a long period of time. Boiler inspection and maintenance are critical for every industry, which covers four basic areas: boiler, burner, controls, and system.
Factors on maintaining the equipment
There are eight areas of the boiler itself that should be examined or inspected regularly to guarantee normal operation.
1.Water level. Check the boiler water level daily is necessary. Insufficient water would cause pressure vessel damage or failure, or even explosion of boiler.
2.Boiler blow down. Steam boilers should be blown down daily to remove sludge and sediment to improve heating efficiency. Hot water boilers generally take on no makeup water, so it is no need to be blown down.
3.Water treatment. Proper water treatment prolongs boiler life and ensure safe and reliable operation. Besides blown down of water, oxygen removal and descaling are essential to do regularly during the operation of boiler. There are also many chemical approaches can be used.
4.Waterside and fireside surfaces. Waterside and fireside surfaces should be inspected and cleaned
Annually. The heating surface may be attached by some material from fuel, oil, dust or others, which will low the heating efficiency.
5.Safety valves. Safety valves are on of the most important safety devices on the boiler, it works as the last line of defense for protecting the pressure vessel from overpressure. Safety devices, such as pressure meter, temperature meter, automatic protective device are also should be maintain regularly.
6.Refractory. Refractory protects steel from overheating. It also helps maintain proper burner flame patterns and performance.
